Everything Going Wrong

Question:

Ken: You didn’t state your age, but speaking for myself and most of my friends, one darn thing after another seems to start to go bad as you near (and reach!) middle age; all of us have lost our gallbladders, had appendixes removed, and us females , most all of us have had to have hysterectomies, and many of us have had to have knee surgeries and various types of carpal tunnel, tennis elbow type surgeries, etc. Everyone I know who for some reason did not get their tonsils removed as a child, has had nothing BUT trouble with them as an adult, and ended up getting them removed after multiple infections, abscesses, etc. Apparently all of this goes with the turf. Unfortunately. Hopefully this run of bad, but rather common luck, will soon pass. BTW, none of my other friends are diabetics, so they can’t blame their bad luck on that.  It appears modern life , diet, living longer, more stress, etc. is rougher on the body. Lucky you, Larry.  I had my tonsils removed on my 3rd birthday.  They grew back, too.  Around age 18 or so, I started getting bouts of tonsillitis again… about every 6 weeks or so.  Eventually, my doctor just gave me a repeating prescription for penicillin.  When I was 22, I told him I couldn’t take it any more, so I had my SECOND tonsillectomy (called a "tonsil tag") the day after my 23rd birthday.  :-( So far, so good, but I’m not looking forward to my 43rd birthday. When I turned 40, I asked my endo (half jokingly) when my body was going to start to fall apart.  She said "In about 6 years".  I think she was 46 ;-) . Beth

You didn’t say how old you were KC I suspect you are 40ish like many of us here ;-) .  Sometimes, you are sick because you are sick we can’t blame everything on Diabetes….I hear Tonsils are a bitch when you are older, I had mine removed as a child (thank God, one less thing to go wrong).  Good luck on your upcoming "adventures in aging" let us all know how you are doing.

My tonsils were removed when I was 6.  They grew back.  They are small, but they are there.  Only had a minor problem with them once. Larry

It’s probably not tied to the diabetes, but the diabetes might be tied to bad health in general.  I have been very sick with assorted things ever since my diagnosis.  I am just now finally getting to the point where I am having some good days.  Prior to that it was bad days and even worse days. It’s no fun being sick and in pain all the time. — Type 2 http://www.redshift.com/~juliebove/

Sounds like normal things that happen to people — and they are just happening to you at the wrong time.  Just a run of bad luck — but at least they are problems that can be dealt with, then shoved aside and forgotten — unlike diabetes. — Irv Finkleman, Grampa/Ex-Navy/Old Fart/Ham Radio VE6BP Calgary, Alberta, Canada
